Privacy Policy
Wifivia is a sign generator: you type a network name and a password, and it draws a printable page. That work happens inside your own browser. This page sets out the little that does leave your device, and names the two measurement tools the site uses.
Effective September 25, 2026
The short version. There are no accounts, no logins, no newsletter, no comments and no checkout. The Wi-Fi names and passwords you type are drawn into the page on your own device and are never sent to us. We run no advertising and we do not sell or share your personal information. Two tools measure page traffic, and both are named in section 4.
1. Who we are
Wifivia ("we", "us") operates the website wifivia.com. For the purposes of the EU and UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), we are the controller of the limited personal data described below. You can reach us at any time at contact@wifivia.com.
2. What stays on your device
This is the important part, so it comes first. The sign generator — the network name, the password, the label line, the QR code — is rendered entirely by JavaScript running in your browser.
- Your Wi-Fi password is never transmitted. It is not posted to a server, not stored in a database and not written to any log we control. If you close the tab without printing, it is gone.
- Your network name is not transmitted either. It is treated exactly the same way as the password.
- Nothing is saved between visits. We set no local storage or session storage for your sign details, so a refresh starts you from a blank form rather than replaying what you typed.
- You can verify this. Open your browser's developer tools, switch to the Network panel, filter for
fetchorXHR, type a password and press Print. No request carries it.
3. What we collect
Information you give us
The only personal information you can hand us voluntarily is the content of an email you choose to send to contact@wifivia.com. We keep such correspondence only as long as needed to answer you, and we do not add you to any list.
Information collected automatically
Like most websites, wifivia.com is behind a content delivery network, which processes technical request data in order to serve pages and block abuse. That includes IP address, user agent, requested URL and timestamp. This is standard infrastructure logging rather than profiling, and we do not use it to build a picture of individual visitors.
Separately, two analytics tools record page-level traffic. They are described in the next section, because "we use analytics" is not a useful thing to tell anyone.
4. Analytics: exactly what runs
Two tools are active. Neither is used for advertising, and neither receives your Wi-Fi details.
| Cloudflare Web Analytics | A cookieless, aggregate page-view counter operated by our CDN provider. It does not set cookies, does not fingerprint devices and does not track you across other websites. It tells us which pages are read, nothing about who read them. |
|---|---|
| Google Analytics 4 | Page views and basic interaction events on this site, delivered through Cloudflare Zaraz, which serves the Google tag from our own domain rather than from a third-party host. It uses a first-party identifier stored in your browser and may record approximate location derived from IP address. Google acts as our processor for this data. |
| What we do not run | No advertising or retargeting pixels, no social media trackers, no session recording or heat-mapping, no cross-site advertising identifiers. |
We use this data for one purpose: understanding which guides are worth writing and keeping. We do not combine it with any other information to identify you.
5. Cookies and similar technologies
Wifivia sets no advertising cookies, and the sign generator itself sets nothing at all. The only browser storage in play comes from the Google Analytics 4 tag described above, which uses a first-party identifier to distinguish one visit from another.
You can block or clear that identifier at any time without losing any functionality: the generator works identically with analytics blocked. Browser-level settings that send a Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track signal are respected to the extent our tooling supports it, and in practice blocking the tag has no effect on your use of the site.
6. External links
Some pages link out to third-party sites — for example a search page on Amazon for a sign holder, or a printer's paper specification. Those sites have their own privacy policies and we have no control over them.
As of the effective date above, these are ordinary links and not affiliate links: no tracking parameter is appended, and we receive no commission if you buy anything. If that ever changes, this section will be updated in the same release that adds the link, and a separate affiliate disclosure will be published alongside it.
7. Sharing, selling and retention
- We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising. Both of those statements are meant in the sense used by the California Consumer Privacy Act.
- We do not share data with advertisers, because there are no advertisers.
- Service providers process data on our behalf: Cloudflare (hosting, CDN and the Zaraz tag delivery layer) and Google (analytics). They are bound to use it only for those purposes.
- Legal obligations may require disclosure, for example in response to a valid request from a public authority.
- Retention is short: aggregate analytics are kept in the provider's standard reporting window, and email correspondence is kept only while it is useful to the conversation.
8. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have some or all of the following rights. To exercise any of them, email contact@wifivia.com — we will respond within the period your local law allows, and we will not charge you or degrade your use of the site for asking.
If you are in the EU, UK or Switzerland (GDPR)
- Access — ask what personal data we hold about you and receive a copy.
- Rectification — have inaccurate data corrected.
- Erasure — ask us to delete your data where no overriding obligation requires us to keep it.
- Restriction and objection — ask us to limit or stop processing, including objecting to processing based on legitimate interests.
- Portability — receive data you provided in a structured, machine-readable format.
- Lodge a complaint with your national supervisory authority. You may also contact us first, and we would prefer you did.
Where we rely on consent for anything, you may withdraw it at any time. Our legal bases for the processing described here are legitimate interests (site security, aggregate traffic measurement) and, where required, consent.
If you are in California (CCPA / CPRA)
California residents have the right to know what categories of personal information are collected and why; to request deletion; to request correction of inaccurate information; to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information; to limit the use of sensitive personal information; to be free from discrimination for exercising these rights; and to designate an authorised agent to act on their behalf.
To be explicit about the opt-out: we do not sell personal information and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising, so there is nothing for you to opt out of. Our disclosure under California Civil Code section 1798.83 ("Shine the Light") is that we do not disclose personal information to third parties for their own direct marketing.
9. Children
Wifivia is a tool for people who administer networks — hotels, hosts, cafés, offices. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
10. International transfers
Our infrastructure and analytics providers are global, so data may be processed outside your country, including in the United States. Where data leaves the EU or UK, transfers rely on the providers' standard contractual clauses and equivalent safeguards.
11. Changes to this policy
If we change what the site collects, we will update this page and move the effective date at the top. Material changes — a new tool, a new purpose — will also be noted on the homepage for a reasonable period. Continuing to use wifivia.com after an update means the current version applies.
12. Contact
Questions, requests and complaints all go to the same place: contact@wifivia.com. We read every message.
